Define the Lab Boundary

Use written permission that names the targets, dates, methods, test accounts, stop conditions, emergency contact, and data-handling rules. Start an isolated virtual network with disposable targets and snapshots. Do not test a public service or shared cloud asset solely because you control an account. Provider rules and third-party rights still apply.

Record the initial target version and snapshot. Practice discovery, service analysis, one approved vulnerability validation, and remediation verification. Keep commands, outputs, timestamps, and scope decisions in a report. A failed test is useful evidence when you explain its cause and limits. Restore the target and confirm that no test account or altered service remains.

Test Your Understanding

For each finding, state the asset, affected version, observed behavior, impact, confidence, and repair. Separate a scanner suggestion from a validated finding. Ask another learner to reproduce the result using your instructions without expanding scope. Revisit modules where the report lacks evidence.
